Around the 90-day mark of settling into our final sites, PeaceCorps hosts the first of two In-Service Training events (IST). This time it was held in Meknes and the goal was for each volunteer to bring a Moroccan counterpart to participate in the project design and management training. Lofty goals for just the first 3 months. This week-long training presented a great opportunity for PCVs and CPs to have dedicated time to brainstorm or work on developing clubs, camps, activities, or workshops. It was a much-needed chance to catch up with all the volunteers as well as ignite some motivation for everyone to look at te big picture for the short time we really have here.
For me it took about 3 days of travel there and 3 back. Let me put it this way, just for the way there I took a total of 7 taxis and a train to arrive at the final hotel for IST. Not the best but the positive side is that being placed so far away means I get to see more of the country even spending a couple nights in Marrakesh!
